Memorial Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated clinical staff pharmacist to join our growing & successful cancer program. This is a full time position to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical services for Hematology/Oncology patients. Our oncology pharmacists provide extensive pharmaceutical care to our patient population afflicted with different types of cancer. They are a vital part of the patient care team. In addition to direct patient care responsibilities, our pharmacists actively participate in drug therapy consults, clinical research protocols, provide patient/family/staff education, precept UNM-COP pharmacy students and PGY-1 pharmacy residents. Memorial Medical Center cancer program as an affiliate of NMCCA provides variety of state-of –the-art treatment options, designed from the latest research findings to participation in the clinical trials for the patients of southern NM and border community.

Our team continues to expand its ambulatory clinical presence in our community thru a dedicated and comprehensive cancer program that has been accredited by ACoS and is the only university affiliated cancer program in the Southern New Mexico, MMC Cancer program has transformed cancer research and treatment in Southern NM and beyond.

Affiliation with NMCCA & UNM cancer center, an NCI-designated Cancer program enable us maintain a high level of rapport with physicians, mid-level providers and interdisciplinary partners on the patient care team.  MMC Cancer Center is the only provider of research and clinical trials to patients of southern NM and border community.

MMC Cancer Center Pharmacy is an integral part of our state-of-the-art cancer center which is currently expanding its facility, services and staff.

Job Description and Qualifications:

The Oncology Pharmacist is responsible for all chemotherapy medication services to the Oncology patients.  The clinical staff oncology pharmacist is responsible for processing chemotherapy orders, double checking orders, clinically referencing lab values for appropriate dosing of chemo and non-chemo drugs for standard of care therapy, communication and therapy coordination for oncology patients, including being a liaison educator to the patients, oncology nursing and pharmacy staff.

Responsibilities includes distributive, regulatory, clinical and quality assurance activities in the specialty area as required.
Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services at the Memorial Medical Center Cancer program.  Monitors outpatient and sometimes inpatient drug therapies when appropriate, and works with relating medical staff to find alternatives when needed, to ensure the best care possible is being given.  The incumbent works in an environment rich with continual learning opportunities:

•       + Obtain support for clinical development from the team and dedicated Oncology    Clinical Coordinator.

•       + Mentor PGY1 Pharmacy Residents and participate in discussions

•       +  Teach and precept student rotations from UNM School of Pharmacy.

•        + Works in a dynamic cancer care environment affiliated with University of New      Mexico.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•         Provides direct pharmaceutical services to patients afflicted with cancer.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in Pharmacy distributive services.
  • Enhances the quality of care delivered to patients.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, Facility Policies and Procedures, USP 797/800 standards, and standards of all accrediting bodies
  • Supports the educational and professional development of the department.
  • Engages in professional self-development.
