Under the supervision of the Radiology Clerical Supervisor and through the use of databases, other electronic information and hard copy documents, provides coordination of basic patient care activities in Radiology in a courteous and professional manner.
Manages scheduled patients to corresponding department the radiology department including procedure verification, appropriate diagnoses, correct demographic information as well as test prep information.
1.1 Greets each patient properly and in a timely manner as they enter the Radiology Departmentl.
1.2 Verifies patient information by checking patient wristbands and verifying date of birth and/or Social Security number.
1.3 Verifies each appointment and exam to be performed with printed schedule, appointment card or appropriate phone call.
1.4 Directs patient to Radiology waiting room during requisition processing. Gives the patient a glow ring with instructions as well as your first name.
1.5 Accurately enters orders into the Radiology module including all appropriate clinical information.
1.6 Understands the importance of preserving confidentiality of patient information.
1.7 Maintains technical knowledge and skills of all related computer systems.
1.8 Must have knowledge of all departmental scheduling procedures.
1.9 Must be able to accurately comprehend and enter orders as directed by physicians and their representatives when appropriate according to department policies and procedures.
1.10 Demonstrates accurate use of the downtime procedures and forms.
Manages inbound calls from physicians and patients/families.
2.1 Provides information to Patient Accounts and the physician's billing department as required to complete the billing process.
2.2 Documents patient information calls in appropriate chart and/or software. Manages data with consistency, accuracy and timeliness.
2.3 Is responsible for follow-through, researches the information and confirms appointments.
2.4 Identifies improvement opportunities for the front office management by bringing better practice ideas to the manager.
2.5 Takes accurate messages when intended party is not available and forwards the messages.
2.6 Participates in ongoing information exchange with Mercy Admitting and is up-to-date on new programs, services and registration processes.
2.7 Requests and records clinical information for each scheduled exam checking for the accuracy of medical necessity and protocols for the exam are followed.
Performs general Radiology clerical activities.
3.1 Offers courteous and timely assistance to patients, physicians, office staff and health center personnel upon request.
3.2 Prepares next day Radiology appointment schedules at the designated times. Sends a list to the Scheduling Department of any problems with patient orders including missing orders, missing diagnoses or missing physician signatures.
3.3 Prepares completed patient reports for delivery to physician offices and for outside mailing according to department standards.
3.4 Assists in sending fax reports upon request. Uses the Meditech auto fax system when available.
Provides support for film library.
4.1 Offers courteous and timely assistance to patients, physicians, office staff and health center personnel upon request.
4.2 Completes computer check-out and check-in procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
4.3 Maintains film files according to department standards.
4.4 Assists physicians with the operation of digital image management systems.
4.5 Works the holiday rotation in the Film Room assisting with all activities.
Assists with other departmental duties as assigned.
5.1 Pre-calls all MRI and CT contrast patients using Health Questionnaire and informs patient of risks of procedure as well as informs patients of any pre-testing medication usage and/or termination of medications as required by testing protocols.
5.2 Ensures all orders are properly completed and scanned .
5.3 Completes competency tests yearly for all areas of the Front Office and Reception.
5.4 Guides new personnel through the department orientation skills list covering each area of responsibility.
Because you’re committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. That’s why you’ll bring to your role the right set of qualifications:
Education: High school diploma required.
Other: Excellent computer skills with accuracy and speed needed to perform functions. Excellent grammar and interpersonal skills required. Well-modulated phone voice is required. Ability to deal with brief periods of work-related stress. Knowledge of medical insurance and pre-certification. Data entry skills with knowledge of Epic, Word, Excel, Valco Viewer and Windows is preferred.
Preferred Education: Some college preferred.
Preferred Experience: Medical terminology and billing experience. Two years experience in a hospital or clinic setting. Experienced clerical coworker with Radiology experience.
Preferred Other: Excellent computer skills and good motor coordination and manual dexterity are necessary for typing, filing and organizational accuracy. Must present a strong service/quality presentation with courteous behavior, problem solving skill level and ability to deal with patients and their families.
