JOB TITLE:  Registered Nurse Orthopedic Care Coordinator

LOCATION: Shamokin Main Hospital

DEPARTMENT: Joint Center


WORK TYPE: Full Time


Under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, gathers data and provides care necessary for implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. Coordinates clinic visits, maintains responsibility for all aspects of inpatient and outpatient care, and performs clinical research. Assists with clinical research that requires obtaining CITI research training. Serves as a patient advocate in the medical care system serving as confidante, advisor, and liaison between patient/family, physicians and multi-disciplinary team. Acts as the primary liaison with the Joint Provider to connect the department and other leaders. Acts as the liaison for three strategies: Population Health, Destination Care, and Proven Care. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.

Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

Reports to the Clinic Nurse Supervisor for clinical assignments.

Clinically works under the supervision of total joint providers.


Demonstrated effectiveness and accuracy in completing responsibilities.

Demonstrated ability to cooperate with the physicians, nurses, receptionists, secretaries and ancillary personnel in assuring a smooth coordinated effort in delivering quality patient care.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Must be able to deal directly with patients in such a way as to instill confidence and facilitate communication.

Utilize Electronic Health Record (EMR) for documentation and communication.


Registered Nurse with current Pennsylvania licensure required.

Completion of CITI training required to participate in research projects

Minimum of two years clinical orthopaedic experience required. Computer skills preferred. Experience with joint replacement patients strongly preferred.

BLS certification required.


Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
